          About First Nations Foundation

"We want to be offering hope for the future." First Nations Foundation Chairman Paul Briggs on his vision for an Australia in which Indigenous Australians have control over their jobs, their money, their health and spiritual wellbeing. The Age, May 4, 2009.

First Nations Foundation (FNF) was established in 2006 with the vision of enabling Indigenous Australians to make informed decisions about their financial wellbeing, in turn securing a sound economic future for themselves and their communities.

Two paths are considered important in achieving this vision for Indigenous Australians: encouraging financial inclusion and building financial literacy. In pursuit of these goals, First Nations Foundation plays a vital leadership role in promoting the development of strong and sustainable relationships between Indigenous Australians and the financial sector.

First Nations Foundation has a leadership role in encouraging, informing and promoting mutually beneficial relationships for Indigenous people, their communities and the financial services sector.

          Our Role
Encourage financial inclusion, financial literacy and cultural competence as follows:

          1. Build Indigenous Australians' financial capacities and confidence (See My Moola)
          2. Support a cultural and social rethinking of the use of money to achieve personal, family and community goals, while maintaining unique Indigenous cultural values  and identity
          3. Engage and inform financial institutions to provide appropriate products, services and processes for Indigenous consumers, and to be leaders in successfully having a range of relationships with Indigenous people (See Indigenous Financial Services Network)
          4. Encourage and promote mutually beneficial relationships between Indigenous people and financial institutions and other stakeholders

          Benefits:

          • Indigenous people understand how money can help them achieve both personal and community goals whilst still maintaining their cultural values.
          • Indigenous people have both the confidence and knowledge to appropriately use the resources of the financial sector.
          • Financial institutions have the understanding, confidence and motivation to provide appropriate products, services and processes for Indigenous consumers.
          • Financial institutions become the leading organisations in successfully working with and relating to Indigenous peoples.
