Peter Seidel

Peter Seidel is a partner with the well-known law firm Arnold Bloch Leibler and is responsible for co-ordinating the firm’s public interest law contributions. He is also head of Arnold Bloch Leibler’s native title practice and represented the Yorta Yorta Aboriginal peoples in their landmark native title claim, High Court appeal and associated legal transactions.

Peter is on the Board of the Victoria Law Foundation. Its mandate is to raise community understanding of and access to a better, fairer and more responsive justice system. He is also on the Board of the Public Interest Law Clearing House (PILCH), an organisation that receives requests for legal assistance, screens these requests and refers them to members who then act on a pro bono basis. Peter co-ordinates PILCH referrals to Arnold Bloch Leibler’s lawyers and carries out public interest law work for a number of Arnold Bloch Leibler’s clients.

Peter is entered on the High Court Register of Practitioners and is entitled to practice as a barrister and solicitor of both the Federal Court and Supreme Court of Victoria. Peter was the inaugural recipient of the Pro Bono Award at the 2004 Law Institute of Victoria’s President’s Awards. In 2006, he received the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission’s Human Rights Award in the law category in recognition of his significant contribution to the promotion and advancement of human rights in Australia.
